January's book #2

Since it seems that some of us are going to have a long wait to get our hands on The Shack, I am proposing a book to read in the interim. That book is:
A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck

I just put a hold request for it at my local library, and I'm the only one on the list ... so I am hoping that the demand for this book isn't as great as The Shack ... let me know if y'all manage to get your hands on a copy. Thanks :)

Thank you for doing another book! I was still in the 60s at my library too. I'm 3 with the new book, so hopefully I'll get it soon!

I got The Shack reserved. I am 49 on the list and there are 24 books so hopefully it won't be too long! But I did get the new book and I will start reading tonight. My interest in now piqued about the Shack, it must be good or so many people wouldn't want it, right? I am half tempted to buy it and then mail it to all of you, sort of like a chain letter, but a chain book!

Ha, that would be awesome, Michelle! Apparantly it's on USA Today's top 100 best-selling books - I didn't know this until after I assigned the book. So yeah, I guess it's good. I just got my copy of A Year Down Yonder from the library, and it's pretty small, so it shouldn't take very long to read.

Ok, I just realized that "A Year Down Yonder" is the sequel to the book "A Long Way From Chicago." It looks like you can read "A Year Down Yonder" without having read "A Long Way From Chicago" and still know what's going on ... but I'm not sure. I think I'm going to see if I can check out "A Long Way From Chicago" from the library...
Sorry guys, I had no idea it was a sequel.

I just got my copy the other day and noticed it's a sequel as well. But, since I had it I went ahead and read it and it didn't seem to matter that I hadn't read the first one. It was a quick read.

Oh good - thanks Lindsey. I'm starting it this week (and I'm sure I'll finish it too soon!)
